DISTRICT POLICY

It is the policy of the Board of Education that the Elementary classrooms shall be self-contained, i.e., one teacher assigned to teach a class of students in all subjects. The Middle School program shall be a flexible program designed to provide a smooth transition from the elementary school to the high school. The secondary program shall be organized on a subject matter basis to allow subject-matter specialists to teach within their fields of preparation.

GUIDELINES

  1. The principal shall, in general, assign students to classes and to teachers without regard to academic ability. He/she shall not attempt to group children homogeneously.
  2. Classroom teachers may, with their own classes and within their own classrooms, group for instruction as they so desire.
  3. Teachers may join with other teachers in inter-class grouping for instruction, team teaching, or the assignment of teachers to subject matter specialties only with prior approval of the principal.
