Creating Conditions for Learning So All Students Can Succeed

Welcome to the North Sanpete School District Special Education Information page.

Creating conditions for learning, so all students can succeed.

North Sanpete School District offers a comprehensive program of special education services designed to provide a learning environment that helps a child progress in his/her individualized educational program. North Sanpete values highly effective instructional practices in meeting the unique and individual needs of our students. We believe all students with individualized education plans (IEPs) deserve to receive the same rigorous instruction as their non-IEP peers in the general education setting with accommodations and supports to the maximum extent possible.

North Sanpete School District Special Education Child Find

North Sanpete School District is responsible for Child Find identification and evaluation for all students suspected of having a disability residing within the boundaries of the North Sanpete School District in compliance with the Federal law, which mandates the provision of free educational programs and/or services for such persons from birth to age 21. If a child is having significant difficulty with vision, hearing, speech, behavior, or is experiencing slow development untypical for his/her age, physical impairments, or learning difficulty, he/she may be a child with a disability. If you know of any child whom you feel might qualify for these services, including students suspected of having a disability even though they are advancing from grade to grade, in a private school, being home-schooled, homeless, youth in custody and care, or migrant, please contact the principal of your school or the Special Education office of North Sanpete School District at 435-462-2485.

*If you suspect that your school age child may have a disability, please contact your neighborhood school principal or special education personnel.
*If your child’s age is birth to two years, contact the Central Utah Public Health Early Intervention Program at 435-896-5451.
*If your child’s age is three to five years, contact the North School District Preschool at 435-462-2077.

Early identification and intervention may be essential to your child’s development.

The Carson Smith Special Needs Scholarship

School districts and charter schools are required by Utah law, 53A1a-704(10), to inform parents of students with IEPs enrolled in public schools of the availability of a scholarship to attend a private school through the “Carson Smith Scholarship Program”.

The Carson Smith Special Needs Scholarship provides tuition assistance for special education students enrolled in eligible private schools. Prospective applicants must have an identified disability and are in need of specialized instruction through Special Education. The student must be at least five years of age before September 1 in order to apply for the scholarship. The amount of the Special Needs Scholarship awarded to an eligible student depends on the level of special education services the student would receive if enrolled in a public school. The Special Needs Scholarship program is funded annually by appropriations through the Utah Legislature. Scholarships are not guaranteed and are subject to the availability of funds. More information can be found on the USBE website
