Statement of Policy
The Board of Education recognizes the influence school personnel have with parents. Pursuant to State Board of Education Rule 277-611, the following guidelines are implemented.
1. Subject to the provisions of the Family Education Right and Privacy Act, school personnel may provide information and observations to parents or guardians about their children such as the student’s progress, health and wellness, social interactions and behavior.
2. School personnel shall not require that a student take or continue to take a specific medication as a condition for attending school.
3. School personnel shall recommend a single specific health care professional or provider but may provide to a parent or guardian a list of two or more health care professionals or providers.
4. School personnel shall be trained regarding the provisions of this section.
5. Violations of this section constitute Improper Conduct.
ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE: Policy VII-7 was originally titled Public Complaints About the Curriculum of Instructional Materials, effective 12/16/1982. It was replaced by Policy VII-7: Human Sexuality on 10/18/2016. That policy was replaced by Policy VI-49: Curriculum Human Sexuality Policy on 1/17/2017.
