Board Policy with Guidelines
Subject: Community Resource Persons and Volunteers
BOARD POLICY
The Board of Education recognizes that one of the greatest resources of the
school is to be found in the people of the community who have special
knowledge and particular talents to contribute to the school program. The
Board, therefore, encourages the use of community resources and citizens to
assist in furthering the educational program. Each principal should study the
needs of his/her individual school, survey the resources available in the school
community, weigh their probable usefulness, and then present to the
Superintendent, for approval, any plans that the principal may develop for using
these community resources.
Background checks are crucial for ensuring the safety and security of both
volunteers and community members. When working with students individually
or away from their classroom in small groups, volunteers and community
members must complete both a background check and code of conduct
training.
Volunteers such as Snow College students, PTA members, or other community
members that are in the classroom with the assigned teacher and not
interacting with students alone will not need a background check or complete
the code of conduct training. These volunteers must always be supervised by a
member of the school staff.
All volunteers and community members must check in the office when entering
and exiting the school building.
The Board recognizes that volunteers can make many valuable contributions to
our schools. The Board endorses a Volunteer Program in the North Sanpete
Schools, subject to suitable regulations and safeguards. Appropriate recognition
of volunteer services shall be made annually.
