Subject: Non-School Employment

BOARD POLICY

The Board believes that in general what an employee does on his/her own time is the employee's own business. However, it is difficult to conceive of a teacher efficiently and effectively conducting more than one job and doing service to each. Therefore, any non-school employment or "moonlighting" that a school employee pursues must not conflict with his/her obligations to the North Sanpete School District nor bring discredit upon it.

GUIDELINES

  1. Full-time employees shall not carry on, concurrently with their district assignment, any private business or undertaking which affects the time or quality of their work or which casts discredit upon or creates embarrassment for the Board or the school district.
  2. Extra-curricular assignments must take precedence over outside employment.
  3. It is the responsibility of the principal of each building to clearly inform teachers and other employees concerning this policy and to carefully monitor the activities of employees to assure compliance with the policy. Violations of the policy shall be reported to the Superintendent.
  4. If a case warrants discipline, the Superintendent of schools shall provide the Board with written documentation and recommendations for problem resolution.
