DISTRICT POLICY


A written report of all accidents regardless of severity must be turned in to the district office.


GUIDELINES


  1. School bus drivers involved in an accident are required to fill out all bus reports required by the state or local policy. A copy of these reports are to be filed in the district office.
  2. Bus drivers involved in an accident shall notify or have notified the state or local police, and the transportation supervisor at the earliest possible moment.
  3. Bus drivers are responsible for the safety and welfare of all persons riding in his bus. The driver must assess the accident situation to determine if his passengers are more safe on or off the bus and direct students accordingly. After arranging for the safety of his passengers, the driver shall render any assistance and aid to others involved in the accident.
  4. All accidents will be evaluated by the Transportation Supervisor and the driver trainer to determine whether the accident was preventable or nonpreventable on the part of the bus driver. Preventable accidents may result in the suspension or release of the bus driver. Drivers who have been suspended or released may make an appeal to the accident evaluation committee. The committee's judgment may be appealed to the Board of Education.
