Dear Parents,

In planning for the upcoming school year amidst the current COVID-19 pandemic, North Sanpete School District continues to consult with state and local education leaders, the Central Utah Public Health Department, and the Utah Department of Health in order to provide the safest environment possible for our students and staff. As part of these planning efforts, I felt it would be beneficial to outline a few of North Sanpete School District’s response measures in the event that a positive COVID-19 case is confirmed to have been in a school.

For the upcoming school year, the following will apply in regards to COVID-19 cases and exposures:

  • Students, teachers, or staff who test positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to attend school until authorized by the local health department following proper isolation protocol.
  • Household members of a student, teacher, or staff who tested positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to attend school until authorized by the local health department following proper quarantine protocol.
  • In the event of a confirmed case in a school setting:
    • Students, teachers, and staff who were wearing a mask and were able to physical distance are not considered exposed.
    • Students, teachers, and staff who were not wearing a mask or able to physical distance will be considered exposed and will be required to quarantine.

It is important to note that this approach to positive COVID-19 cases and potential exposures is consistent with current public health guidance in the state, and will be conducted in coordination with the Central Utah Public Health Department.

In the event that an exposure to COVID-19 occurs in a school setting, North Sanpete School District will work closely with the Central Utah Public Health Department to identify potential contacts and provide guidance for further actions. If your child is exposed to COVID-19 in a school setting, you will be contacted by your child’s school or the health department to provide recommendations on quarantine or monitoring protocols.

I encourage parents, students, and staff to do their part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and in the local community. I encourage you to follow the state order from the Governor and the Utah Department of Health to wear masks in schools, in addition to washing hands, social distancing, and staying home when symptomatic. These efforts will assist in providing a safer learning environment for both our students and staff. Please refer to the Utah Department of Health COVID-19 School Manual for specific guidelines and information.

At this time, there are families that may have questions regarding childcare. For those parents seeking this support, I encourage you to connect with Care about Childcare, an agency serving five central Utah counties in assisting families and supporting our child care providers.

We appreciate your support in these unprecedented times as we make every effort to provide a safe and effective learning environment for our students and staff. Current information will be sent to parents and staff as it becomes available.

I look forward to seeing our children return to school on August 20th.

Take care,

Nan Ault

Superintendent
