NSSD Mission

NSSD Foundation

Parents,

The next few months move quickly as we enter the holiday season. Our schedules as families seem to fill up quickly and it can be difficult to fit everything in.  While you make your plans, please continue to put school attendance for your children at the top of your priority list. One goal we are focusing on for the district this year is… Every Student, Every Day. We will keep working with our great Sanpete families to support you in this effort and appreciate all your support. For more information about the effects of absenteeism, visit the Attendance Works website and check out the research that supports healthy school attendance,  Chronic Absenteeism in the Nation's Schools, Chronic Elementary Absenteeism: A Problem Hidden in Plain Sight.

The mobile food drop will be in Ephraim next Thursday night (October 28th) in the parking lot behind Zions National Bank from 7 PM to 8 PM. If you or your neighbor need this support, please reach out to the Sanpete Pantry for assistance.  Along with this service, the Resource Clothing Bank is accepting donations of clean and gently used clothing, shoes, and linens. These donations are accepted any time.  The location is 50 South 100 West in Ephraim.  The clothing bank is open for community members to come and shop for items they need on Wednesdays only from 1 to 7 p.m.  Inform your neighbors of these resources if there is a need, especially as winter approaches.

Elementary Standards Public Comment Welcome
On October 7, 2021, the Utah State Board of Education approved to release the draft of the revised Elementary Social Studies Standards for grades K-6 for 90 days of public comment. We would like to invite you to provide feedback by responding to the Elementary Social Studies draft standards here.

Public input is an essential part of the standards process, allowing an opportunity for stakeholders to provide useful feedback.   The public comment period of 90 days will conclude on January 16, 2022. Thank you for your time and for exercising your civic duty by providing comment.

Three public hearings will be held across Utah this winter. Upon approval by the Board in November, the dates and locations will be shared and posted. Public hearings are another opportunity to give feedback directly to USBE staff on recommendations you may have related to the draft standards.

I want to share out a new resource from USBE.  This resource was created to offer support to parents of children in kindergarten.  It covers motor skills, social and emotional skills, and academic skills and includes an explanation of each, tips for talking to the teacher, examples of what a child should know and be able to do by the end of kindergarten, and everyday activities that parents can do to support learning at home. I have attached it here and it is also found on the kindergarten webpage here: https://www.schools.utah.gov/curr/kindergarten?mid=1179&tid=1

Covid testing is still available for students on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 2:30 to 3:30 pm during school calendar days.  Please click on the calendar link to schedule an appointment for your student(s), if necessary.  You can also access updated COVID information on our website under the COVID-19 Resources.

Enjoy your Fall Break and be safe,
Nan
