BATTLE OF THE BOOKS - Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22 is round 1 of The Battle of the Books. This involves our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. They have been working hard to read all of the books and prepare themselves. Parents are invited to attend. The 6th Grade will begin at 8:30, 4th Grade at 9:30, and 5th Grade at 10:30. Two groups of winners from each grade will move onto the finals, which will be held on March 3rd. A special thanks to the PTA and Trine Huntington for organizing this great learning opportunity for our students.

FOOD DRIVE -  Fairview Elementary is holding a food drive in conjunction with the North Sanpete High School Student Government. Please bring non-perishable food items to donate. The class that collects the most food will win a party with the North Sanpete High School Student Government. All donations will be taken to the Central Utah Food Sharing Pantry. Suggested donations include canned soups, tuna, fruit, chili, vegetables, boxed meals, cereal, peanut butter, pasta, rice and jello. The Food Drive runs February 16 - March 3.

LITERACY WEEK - The PTA has a fun-filled week planned for our students. We will celebrate Literacy Week February 27 - March 3. March 2nd is Dr. Seuss's birthday - what better way to celebrate than to read? Did you know Dr. Seuss would be 113 this year? While he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the pages of his books. He forever changed the way children's books were written and continues to inspire generations. We will have a different activity each day.

PARENT SURVEY - Thanks to all parents who participated in our school survey. The feedback we receive from you will help make our school a better place. Thanks for taking the time to help us improve.

AUTHOR JENNIFER NIELSEN - You may have heard your child talking about the assembly we had last week. We were very lucky to hear from award winning author, Jennifer Nielsen. She taught our students that Reading is POWER.It gives you control of your life. It takes training (weeks, months, years). It takes time to be the greatest and our will fail sometimes. The most important thing is to try again. She also taught our students that they need to find their "inner-extraordinary." This is when students become the inside of themselves, the best me!  Our teachers are here everyday to help students find their inner-extraordinary! Than you Jennifer Nielsen! She was an inspiration to all of us!

BE PROMPT IN PICKING UP CHILDREN AFTER SCHOOL - Please be prompt in picking up your children after school. If you are picking up your students, please be in the parking lot no later than 3:05 pm. (1:05 on Mondays). Staff members frequently must wait with students when parents are late or when students are confused about after-school plans. And please be sure to finalize after-school plans with your children prior to them leaving for school in the morning. In emergencies, parents may have to change after-school plans and contact the school. We will certainly get the message to your children but please do what you can to avoid those "emergencies".

NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK - National School Breakfast Week is coming March 6-10. A time to celebrate school breakfast and remind parents, students, and staff of the importance of eating a healthy breakfast everyday. We will be sending home a note next week about this. We have amazing cooks at our school that work hard to provide a healthy and delicious breakfast for our students.
