VETERANS DAY PROGRAM - Our second grade students honored all veterans on Friday, November 10. We were privileged to hear from Greg Sorensen. Students sang songs, and recited their parts. They were amazing! Our hearts were touched as we were reminded about the importance of Veterans Day. Thank you to Mrs. Sorensen and Mrs. Shelley for taking the time to teach the second graders and all of us. The program was a great reminder of how blessed we are to have great American heroes serving our country.
SCHOOL LUNCH DAY - Thanks to everyone that attended our school lunch day. It is fun for our students to eat lunch with parents, brothers, sisters, and grandparents. Our kitchen staff did an excellent job preparing for our many visitors. Check out our Facebook page (Fairview Elementary PTA) for pictures of events like School Lunch and the Veterans Day Assembly.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING - Students will be dismissed for Thanksgiving Break on Wednesday, November 22nd at 1:00 pm. As a staff, we are so grateful for the opportunity to work with your beautiful children. They make us smile and laugh every day. We are thankful that our students are excited to learn and are happy to be at school. Their enthusiasm is contagious. We are thankful for parents who support their children in gaining the best education possible. Personally, I am thankful for hard working and dedicated teachers. They put in many extra hours of their own time to prepare engaging and fun lessons, attend meetings, and grade papers. We have the best support staff that assists our teachers and students. They are an essential part of our school. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

BEST PRACTICES PARENTING TIP FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR, Elise Hansen - Developing Resiliency
Kids learn resiliency from their parents modeling it for them. They are always observing us because this is how they learn to navigate and handle their world.
Try to be calm and consistent. If we are telling our children we want them to control their emotions, while we are losing control, it doesn't work. Actions always speak louder than words.
One thing for sure is that parenting takes a lot of practice and we will make mistakes. Probably more than we want. But the truth is, IT'S OKAY TO MAKE MISTAKES. In fact, it is healthy because this is actually a great time to model resiliency for our children. When you make a mistake, admit it and say something like, "I really messed up. I'm sorry I handled that poorly. let me try that again or what I should have done is..." There is really no one as forgiving as kids and this helps them see we all make mistakes and can learn and be resilient. This is powerful learning for success in their life!
