SPRING BREAK (MARCH 28 - APRIL 1) AND MINIMUM DAY ON FRIDAY, MARCH 25 - Friday, March 25 (the day before the start of our Spring break) will be a "minimum Day" and all students will be dismissed at 12 noon. There will be no morning kindergarten on that day - but afternoon kindergarteners will have school from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The Spring Break goes from March 28 to April 1. Enjoy this time with your families and make sure the students are ready for the spring to the finish of the school year.

MCDONALDS FUND RAISER - We are excited to announce that the PTA is teaming up with the McDonalds in Ephraim for the Fairview Elementary School PTA fundraiser. We are inviting the entire Fairview community to have dinner with us at the Ephraim McDonalds on Thursday, March 24 anytime from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. It will be a great time to visit with neighbors, friends, and family. And the best news is that 50% of all sales will be given back to our PTA. So, come hungry with your entire family, extended family, neighbors, and friends. And if you like chocolate chip cookies, plan on eating a lot of them because the PTA will receive 100% of funds collected on cookie sales. Do NOT use the drive-thru as the PTA only gets credit for the "inside the restaurant" sales. The money raised will be going towards the purchase of some new playground equipment.

UPSTART KINDERGARTEN READINESS PROGRAM - UpStart is a free, at-home, technology-delivered kindergarten readiness program that gives children a fun start in reading, math, and science in just 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week. It is for children who will be starting Kindergarten in August 2017. It supplements any pre-school program or activities that your child may be involved in. It is a state sponsored program so there is absolutely no cost involved. Go to: www.waterfordupstart.org or call 1-800-669-4533 for more information.

KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2016-2017 - Children who will be five on or before September 1, 2016 need to begin the kindergarten registration process today. If you haven't already done so, please call the school today (427-9204) if you have a child or know of a child (neighbor or friend) who is eligible for kindergarten next year. At this point, all we need is the name of our new little Thunderbird along with a mailing address and phone number.

SUMMER READING - In a research article, Richard Allington and A. McGill-Franze said, "Summer reading loss accounts for as much as 85% of the reading achievement gap.//so, sending books home with children over the summer yields greater achievement gain." The difference between a student who is successful in school and one who is struggling in school is related strongly to whether or not that student reads during the summer. Knowing this, parents should insist on their children reading every day of the summer vacation - for at least 30 minutes. Hopefully, parents can make reading a pleasurable experience for the entire family. have students read aloud to you while preparing dinner. Turn off the TV and read a good book together. Read around the campfire. Read before going to bed each night. Read whenever - but read every day. We all want our children to be successful in school and in life - and reading (especially in the summer) is one of the keys to that success. Summer is coming so plan now to make it a summer of reading. And the Scholastic Book Fair is coming from April 12-14 - so be sure to get lots of books for summer reading.
