PIE DAY (Partners in Educations) - Thank you to all of the parents who participated in the first ever PIE Day. PIE stands for Partners in Education. Parents participated in a guided tour of a few classrooms in our school. They watched a kindergarten class, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 6th grade class. They saw instruction in math, small group reading, letter identification, and test prep. After the classroom visits, parents gathered together, talked about what they saw, asked questions, and of course, ate pie.

Research shows that when parents are involved in their student's education, students are more likely to attend school more regularly, complete homework, earn higher grades and test scores, graduate and go on to college, and have higher self-esteem. When community activities are linked to the classroom, there is a positive impact on academic achievement and school-related behaviors improve.

If you missed out on this opportunity, we will be having another PIE Day after the New Year. Don't miss out on the chance to see our students and teachers in action!

12 NOON DISMISSAL  - Please remember that students will be dismissed on Tuesday, December 20th at 12 Noon. Students will enjoy a yummy brunch of funnel cakes from our amazing cooks this day. This will be an early start to the Christmas Holiday.

SANTA'S SECRET SHOP - The PTA is sponsoring a special school project. They set up a store right inside our school. Students can buy Christmas presents for their family and friends. It's called Santa's Secret Shop. Students' were able to preview this Shop on Tuesday. The Shop will be open Wednesday and Thursday during the school day. Students who bring money can spend some time shopping during school. the Shop will also be open from 2:45 - 4:00 pm each day. There are items ranging in price from $0.25 - $13.00. This is a fun and affordable option for students to enjoy the holiday season. Maybe they can do a job at home to earn a little money for the Shop.

AMAZON SHOPPING - Are you doing any of your Christmas shopping with Amazon? Did you know that when you shop on Amazon, our school could benefit? Before you shop, go to www.smile.amazon.com and choose "PTA Utah Congress Fairview Elementary" as your charitable donation. It doesn't cost any extra to shop Amazon this way. On select items, Amazon will contribute a percentage of the cost to the chosen charity. You only need to sign up once and each time you shop, Amazon will donate to our PTA on any eligible items.

WINTER WEATHER - We expect students to go outside for recess, even when it is cold. Please make sure that your students are dressed for the weather that day. They should wear a warm coat to school everyday. If gloves are available, that is a bonus for the children. Just make sure that all clothing has your child's name in it. Also, please check our lost and found. We have many coats, jackets, and gloves in or lost and found right now that we would love to return to the owner.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR  - This will be the last newsletter until the New Year. We would like to wish you and your family Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We are so proud of your children. They have learned so much and worked hard in school this year. Take care during the break, enjoy each other and remember to read! Have a great Christmas Break!
