The PTA, Janae, and Mrs. Mower will be posting regularly and working hard to make this page a valuable tool to improve communication between home and school. We will include reminders of upcoming events, photos of the students, and information about the many learning activities going on at our school. In order to find our page, do a search for the "Fairview Elementary PTA." There are seven Fairview Elementary PTA's so make sure you click on the one with our Thunderbird logo. Encourage all family members to like our page so they can keep up with all that is going on at our school.
WALK TO SCHOOL DAY, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 - We are excited to have our PTA Walk To School Day. Please help all students walk or ride their bikes to school this day. If you would normally drive your child to school, consider dropping them off at the bottom of the walkway to finish walking to school. Bus students will be dropped off at the bottom of the walkway so they may walk to school on Thursday. Thanks to the PTA, all students who participate will receive a snack when they arrive at school. Here are a couple of safety items to remember when walking to school.
•Remember that all children should use 200 North and 400 East as much as possible when walking to and from school. These are the street with sidewalks.
•Students on the west side of town should always cross State Street at 200 North where we have a crossing guard.
•Students should walk on the sidewalks when they are available. If sidewalks are not available, they should stay to the side and avoid traffic as much as possible. They should be alert to the traffic that is coming their way and step back as needed.
•Students on their bikes should be extremely careful and stay as far to the right as is possible. Students should slow down at all intersections to check for traffic.
MUSIC SPECIALIST - Students started participating in music this week. Our music specialist is Camie Talbot. We would like to welcome her to Fairview. Our students are lucky to benefit from Mrs. Talbot's enthusiasm and excitement for teaching music.
FRESH FRUIT OR VEGETABLE SNACK - Every Tuesday through Friday after recess students receive a fresh fruit or vegetable snack prepared by our amazing kitchen staff. Fairview Elementary qualified for a grant that offers this to our students. The goal is to improve children's overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program will help schools create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices; expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience; and increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption.
So far our students have enjoyed snacks such as strawberries, mango, peas, oranges, broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. We are excited to offer this healthy snack during the school day. Students are not required to eat the snack if they don't like it, but are encouraged to try new things.
We would ask that all other snacks and candy stay at home. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Mower.
