Subject:  Personal Leave

BOARD POLICY

It is expected that all employees will be at their assigned work locations except as set forth in the following policy guidelines.

GUIDELINES

  1. Regular full-time, benefitted employees of the school district earn four days of paid personal leave each year. Three of these days are to be deducted from sick leave. Two additional days of emergency leave may be taken each year by certificated personnel. If emergency days are taken, the employee will pay for a substitute.
  2. Individuals who have carried over 80 days or more of sick leave may roll over up to four unused personal days for a maximum of 7 accrued. These days are to be taken from sick leave.  An employee may not use more than 7 personal days and two emergency days in any one year. Employees may not use any more than five leave days consecutively.  The two emergency leave days are not considered for roll over.
  3. Paid personal leave has a variety of purposes such as emergency family problems, bereavement, civic and professional responsibilities, educational or recreational travel.
  4. The request for personal leave must be approved or denied by the Principal or Supervisor on the designated district form at least (5) days prior to the actual leave.
  5. Personal leave prior to or following a holiday requires Board, Superintendent, or HR Director approval five days prior to the actual leave, except in case of an emergency.
  6. It is the responsibility of the employee with the approval of the Principal or supervisor to arrange for an acceptable substitute. In case of a genuine emergency, the Principal or designee will arrange for the substitute.
  7. Personal leave may be delayed or denied if the Board, Superintendent, or HR Director judge that the leave will create a hardship on the children or other employees in the district.
